I plan to be the type of father who will always be there for my child. One who goes to my child’s extracurricular events, even if it means taking time off work. I see myself helping my child with their homework and listening to his or her problems. I can’t wait to go camping together to show them the natural wonders of the earth. I imagine family road trips to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and, of course, Disney!! I think about taking my child to their first baseball game, swimming lessons, sports practice, museums, and the zoo. I think about our house being a place our kids are always happy to bring their friends. I’m so excited about having someone to fish with and to teach how to ride a bike and throw a football and even to cook (one of my favorite pastimes!).
I will also teach my child about spiritual beliefs, but will remain open to the idea that someday they might choose their own spiritual path. I see myself as the type of parent who will have hot chocolate ready after a morning of playing in the snow or a Spongebob Band-Aid and a hug ready in the event of a scraped knee. I want to be a dad who can show my child the importance of being a responsible member of the community through simple acts such as helping a neighbor raking leaves, recycling, or volunteering for a local charity. Finally, I intend to ensure that our home is one where our child will be comfortable with themselves and where he or she will be heard and encouraged to pursue and excel in anything they desire.
Angie's Thoughts on Parenting...
When
I close my eyes and envision myself as a mother several things come to
mind. Sometimes I dream of building sandcastles together on the beach,
swimming lessons, preparing the annual Talley Thanksgiving dinner
together, shopping for school clothes, playing pitch and catch, you name it. One of my absolute favorite memories of growing up was simply watching Saturday morning cartoons with my dad while sitting on the floor in our undies in front of the TV having a bowl of cereal. I can’t wait for that. I feel like I was born to be a mother and I’ve always felt that way. I am a natural born provider, nurturer, caregiver, and a genuinely loving, kind-hearted person.
Nutrition and fitness are a big part of my life and I plan to raise our children in an environment where healthy snacks and physical activity beat junk food and video games as often as possible. Music is also a passion of mine and I will nurture any and all artistic hobbies that my child becomes interested in. I grew up a major tomboy climbing trees, playing with transformers, and riding dirt bikes, but have also evolved into a girlie-girl who loves shopping sprees, mani/pedis, spa days and playing dress up.
I will provide love, guidance, support, stability, and education, as well as kisses and hugs, and discipline and advice when needed. We will travel the world and learn about other cultures and provide a love of nature and protecting our environment.
